More about Paul. Hi, I’m Paul Anderson, and I want to tell you a little bit about myself.  I was introduced to fly fishing in September of 1975 by a friend of a friend. My new friend and I hit it off, and we began fly fishing every chance we got.

I quickly learned to tie flies and learn about the bugs and matching the hatch. I was living in Central Washington at the time and was able to gain experience on both rivers and lakes. I soon was out of high school and started looking at fly fishing opportunities all over the Northwest and Montana.

In 1985,  I went up to fish the Bow River in Alberta Canada. In 1991,  my fly fishing partner and I flew to New Zealand for three weeks of backpacking both the north and south island.

In 1992,  I changed jobs. My new career gave me summers off. I was then able to flyfish as many as 120 days a year. My annual trips included a week on the Green River in Utah and 3 two to three weeks camping and fly fishing the Yellowstone area and Henry’s Lake Idaho. Many times we would go north to the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana to fly fish Duck and Mission Lakes.

Back home in the off season, I would teach how to fly fish,  fly tying, and fly fishing and casting.  I began guiding on the desert spring creeks and lakes for trout and the Columbia Gorge rivers and tributaries for steelhead. In 2000,  I was invited to help with the fly tying theater and the casting pond at the Central Washington and the Tri-cities Sportsman shows. And eventually the Spokane Valley sportsman show. In 2006,  I learned of a fishery on the Columbia River fishing for steelhead and salmon in a still water situation at the mouth of rivers.

Over the years, I have studied the fishery experimenting with different colors, styles, and sizes of fly’s. I have been a Fly Fishing merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America and held many classes and seminars teaching fly fishing and fly tying.

In March of 2013, I began working in a fly shop in central Washington. I was involved with every aspect of running the shop except working with suppliers. I processed all Internet orders, I booked guide trips, I merchandised and did stocking. I assisted customers on their choice of flies, fly fishing gear and fly tying material.

In August,  I opened my own fly shop – Fly Fishing Strategies Fly Shop in The Dalles, Oregon. I would love to visit with you about your fly fishing needs – stop by the fly shop anytime.  You can also reach me at 541-296-699
